Northcott fabrics has supported breast cancer research and support systems for many years. This year over 3000 blocks were submitted. The president of Twisted Stitcher's Guild won an honourable mention in applique & is going for the win this year. Some of those blocks are in 2 beautiful quilt tops at Quilter's Cupboard in Uxbridge. They will be sandwiched & up in frames for hand quilting March 30 & 31. There are similar Marathons those days at many quilt shops around the country so check it out. The sameprogram in running in 2007.

We had a very success workshop day for Twisted Stitcher's Quilt Guild. About half a dozen of us worked on the Marquee Quilts for charity. These are the tops we finished on Sat. Sept 16. I love all the different combinations of colours.

Marquee Quilt #2
My first series!!
I have another marquee quilt in various stages to use as demo pieces for the guild. We will spend a whole Saturday in September making these tops.
For any guild members who bought fabric at Joyce's recently this is for you.
After washing and before storing those lovely new fabrics consider cutting a few strips for the charity quilts. Cut them selvage to selvage and a variety of widths from 1" to 2 & 1/2". Remember yours don't have to go together we will be sorting the colours at the meeting. The more variety the better!
I like to sort them on a hanger with a cardboard roll it has just enough tack to keep the strips from sliding.
These strips are sewn together to make a strata about 12" wide.
I have 2 rows of the top together. The background blocks are quite a stretch from the solid type I used last time but I like the texture. I have just been careful making sure the pattern runs the same way. My inspiration for the colour scheme was a small photo of a pillow in a magazine that I have misplaced. But it will surface eventually!
I will post additional pictures of putting the block together using chain piecing soon.

Marquee QuiltI bought 3 rolls of strips of fabric at tag sale for $1.50!! at quilt guild meeting a few weeks ago. They were almost all full length -from selvage to selvage. They were perfect for Marquee Quilt from Modern Quilt Workshop. Used 1 & 1/2 m of black tone-on-tone from Northcott. I wanted a project to join Kim's Modern Quilt Along. perfect.
I finished the block in 2 days, pieced them together in another day. It is a super easy top to make. I'm waiting for thumbs up from guild executive to organize a workshop day where we can pump some of these out for charity quilts.
